Bio
With two years of experience at Able City’s non-profit affiliate, City Makery, Sabrina has worked alongside community advocates to improve Laredo’s food system. In her role as the coordinator for the Laredo Food Policy Council (LFPC), a vital function of the Laredo Center for Urban Agriculture & Sustainability (LCUAS), she facilitated a dynamic community engagement process, including organizing Laredo’s inaugural Food Town Symposium. Together with the Laredo Health Department, the LFPC successfully developed and secured the adoption of a 5-year Healthy Food System Plan for the City of Laredo.
Beyond this initiative, Sabrina engaged and organized with residents from one of Laredo’s oldest neighborhoods, El Barrio Azteca, delving into their unique needs and aspirations through numerous meetings and workshops. This process revealed a pressing need for a food market, community meeting space, and resources for community advocacy in Azteca, highlighting the community’s desire to grow fruits and vegetables and emphasizing how food unites people.
Sabrina is thrilled to join the Able City team as a community engagement specialist and further her work in improving the quality of life and place in cities.
